snacks

Adreyn has to take a snack to school every day.  5th grades don't eat until almost 1pm so they get a snack in the morning.  However, this snack has to be semi-healthy.  Adreyn has taken raisins and goldfish...but the other day she took SunChips and the teacher refused to let her eat them (grrrrr).  So, I've been trying to figure out snacks for her that she likes but are more healthy, but are easy to get to school and can be eaten with her hands.  She loves Gardetto's trail mix (so do I) and Chex mix but that stuff can get really expensive.  So I went looking for recipes and here's what I found and what I've been doing today :-)

And I'm also gonna make this:  Granola for Picky Kids
I just have to get the chex mix out of the oven.

I've already sampled the cracker mix....YUM!!!!
And the Chex mix smells so good!

Days off!!!!

I've got 2 days off.  So now I get to be a good wife and mommy.  In the next 2 days I get to:

* go grocery shopping
* cook dinner
* make snacks
* do laundry...started
* dishes...jason is keeping up on this
* do homework with the kids...not much homework this week
* organize my coupon book sorta
* spend time with my honey
* Oh, my favorite!!!  I get to make the last payment on Jason's car!!!!!!

Hopefully, I can get it all done in just a couple days...cause, that's all I have before going back to work for 4 days.  I'm working lots of overtime lately...I'm enjoying the paychecks but missing the time with my family.  It will be nice when work evens out a bit and I can do a couple of weeks without extra shifts.  Of course that probably won't happen until my week off after Thanksgiving.  (I'd like to have the week of Thanksgiving off...but I didn't pick the right career for that...surprisingly enough, hospitals don't close on holidays, and people have babies on holidays. Heehee!)

Ugggg!!!!

Last night just about killed me!!!!  We started with 14 babies, admitted 2, transitioned 1, then I RAN (yes, really, full-out sprinted) to a code alarm delivery, and then got to go to another "get in here right now" delivery.  I haven't had this busy of a night in a while...and I'm more than happy to not have another one for awhile.  The problem is...if my Friday is crazy...usually my Saturday and Sunday are too!!!!  Here's hoping tonight is better!!!!!

5 question Friday

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then c'mon back (tomorrow morning) to link up!! Feel free to leave your answers in the comments below if you don't have a blog!
1. If you could speak with a different accent, what would it be (i.e Australian, Scottish)?   Probably Australian....its just such a nice accent...plus then I'd sound like my nieces :-)   Although, I really like the Scottish accent too.

2. Can you fall asleep anywhere? (i.e floor, couch, deck)   It depends on how tired I am (and how old I'm getting)  If I'm short on sleep I can fall asleep anywhere, well mostly anywhere.  But if I'm awake and not in a "usual" place to sleep (someone else's house) it makes it very hard to sleep.

3. Do you use public restrooms? If so, do you sit on the toilet?  I use public restrooms only if absolutely necessary (even at work).  I'd prefer to wait until I get home.  Ummm, the second part of the question...why would you want to know that?????

4. If you were stuck in an elevator for 24 hours, what celebrity would you most want to be stuck with?  I don't know that I'd want to be stuck with any celebrity for 24 hours.  But I guess if I had to choose a celebrity, I'd choose between Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Meg Ryan, and Ryan Reynolds.  But I'd most like 24 hours alone with my husband!!!!!!!

5. Where did you & your significant other go on your 1st date?  Well, the first time we actually went anywhere together as a "couple" (sorta) was when Jason's best friend Colden got a group of us together to "take a walk"  he had somewhere he wanted us to see.  Little did we know (until 1.5 hours later) that the "walk" was a walk entirely across town to go to.....wait for it........Pizza Hut!!!  Then we had the walk back to get to know each other better :-)

Our first real date was to The Mall of America.  It was great fun, we went with a group and managed to get "lost" from the group.

Today

My list to accomplish today (yes it's 2am)

*sleep  was in bed by 3am and slept until 11am!!!!
*finish laundry ***working on this...will probably take today and tomorrow to get finished....***
*plan dinner (swiss steak...yum!)...and try to plan ahead for dinner this weekend while I work ***I'm thinking that BBQ pork ribs, chicken and rice sound good....now I need to pick one more meal then we are good for the weekend!***
*find recipes for some easy healthy snacks to make and have at home (Adreyn takes snack to school each day...for morning snack since lunch for her isn't until 1pm)...***found recipes...now to get the stuff to make them!***
*of course...after cooking I'll then need to do dishes (or I may leave the dishes to Jason, hehe)

Now, I just need to manage to get to sleep tonight so I can accomplish stuff today!

Sunday, September 19

I guess I should post something, huh???

Ok...it's been over a week since I blogged.  At least, I've been busy, right???

I went back to work on the 9th, then I worked the next 4 nights...so NOT the smartest way to come back from vacation.  We were so busy too that there just wasn't a lot of time to catch up with my friends at work :-)

Then I had one night off and went back for 3 more shifts.  So, 7 12-hour shifts in 8 days.  I've been doing lots of sleeping!

The kids have been doing really well with school.  Even Tristan has been having a good year so far...thank God!!!  Adreyn auditioned for Choir and got in!!!  So, we have some different choir events that we will be attending this year.   Rehanyn has only gotten one red check this year (they use a green/yellow/red system in her classroom)  and it was for TALKING...surprise, surprise!

We are looking forward to Tamra and family coming to visit in several weeks!  The kids really want to see their cousins!!!!

I made a cake this weekend too...it was for one of my NICU babies :-)

Tuesday, September 7

dot, dot, dot!

* my "staycation" is almost over and I've been called 2 times now to see if I want to pick up shifts
* the girls birthday party (Adreyn, Rehanyn, and Ashleigh) was fun over at Tasha's house. It was nice to spend time with family
* Jason realized the other day that staying home all day with the kids...is frustrating. :-)
* I'm really not looking forward to going back to work...I miss my friends but it's been kind of nice being home at night
* I've almost got laundry caught up again...just in time to go back to work and let it get behind again
* I need to make more of the meatballs that I made last week...it was a new recipe and it was really yummy!!!!!
* I have lots of recipes to try...not gonna have time...good thing I bookmarked them
* I stole the idea from "dot" points from Tamra
* Rehanyn got in trouble at school today for...talking...this does not surprise me, what does surprise me is how long it took to happen.
* Adreyn is figuring out that 5th grade is harder than 4th grade and that it is very important to turn in your work and to do your homework.
* Tristan is doing okay...I'm probably gonna try to plan a teacher conference in the next couple of weeks though just to make sure things are going ok and to keep in the teachers face :-)
* I can't think of much else
* oh, and I LOVE this new background!!!!

5 question Friday

I'm linking up to Mama M at MyLittleLife

Questions for Friday, September 3rd:

1. What do you do when you have time to yourself? Not that I get alot of time to myself but when I do, I usually read. I love reading...pretty much anything available. I got a Kindle last year and it has over 250 books on it already! I also have been spending time looking for recipes online.

2. When you look out your kitchen window, what do you see? I see our teeny tiny backyard...but mostly just our fence. When we lived in Minnesota the view out of the kitchen window was much better. The kitchen was in the front of the house so we saw the street but on the other side of the street was this cool old cemetery with really old trees. We couldn't see the graves or anything...mostly it just looked like a forest. Anyway, it was really pretty to see in the Fall with all the colors changing and it was really pretty in the winter too with all the icicles hanging off the branches :-)

3. Who/What would you want to be reincarnated as? I don't believe in reincarnation but if I did...I'd want to be a really, really, really rich person...as in, NO DEBT and money to give away!!!!!

4. What is your biggest pet peeve about other people's kids? I don't like rude kids. I was raised to have respect for adults and prefer that my kids call their aunts and uncles "Aunt _____" and "uncle ______". I introduce my friends to my kids as "Miss ____" or "Mrs. _____" SO I guess that is it...just be polite, oh and I love kids that clean up after themselves (oh, guess I was dreaming there)

5. Regular or Diet soda? I grew up calling "soda" coke...We would go to a restaurant and be asked what kind of "coke" we wanted and from there we would request "coke, or pepsi, or 7-up, or orange" etc. It has been very hard for me to call coke "soda" or "pop". Anyway, I don't EVER drink diet anything...I hate the diet aftertaste. I also only drink Pepsi...Coke tastes funny to me and I'm not a fan of clear beverages :-) Although, I loved Crystal Pepsi!!!! I didn't realize that it only sold for about a year (1992-1993)...that's one drink I wouldn't mind them bringing back :-)

Wednesday, September 1

soooo....

Yesterday was Rehanyn's 6th birthday...where have the years gone...my baby is no longer a baby! We had a good time and took her out to Rainforest Cafe for her birthday...she had the "macaroni as usual" there :-) She got a "big girl" doll and loves that it has regular clothes and pajamas to wear!

So, I'm on a "staycation" right now. I always take about 10 days off this time of year since the girls birthdays are only 5 days apart and it's too hard working nights to fit shifts in around their birthdays. Now, last week, shifts were hard to come by at work...we had low census and everyone was freaking out about getting their shifts. I figured out what the problem was...I wasn't on staycation yet...AS SOON as I left work monday for my 10 days off...the unit exploded with admits...last night they had 17 babies in our 16 bed unit! So, I've decided that to help all my friends with shifts...I'll just stay home from now on so that the unit stays busy :-) LOL I've already been told that I have to come back next week!!!!

Other than that there isn't much exciting going on here. I've been getting caught up on laundry, trying to help with dishes, and cooking ALOT more than usual. It's been fun researching recipes though :-)

Adreyn has a friend coming to stay the night on Friday and then her birthday is on Sunday...she is very excited!

Tristan is doing well with school. This teacher is keeping us updated daily on his progress so that is a plus. Maybe the school actually found the right teacher for him this year...we shall see!
